Recovery Dialogues: An Avenue for Culture Change in Psychiatric Hospitals

National Empowerment Center

Thursday, October 25, 2018

2-3:30 pm (ET)
1-2:30 pm (CT)
12-1:30 pm (MT)
11 am-12:30 pm (PT)

Please join us for this webinar to hear how mental health peer leaders are partnering with hospitals through Recovery Dialogues in an attempt to shift the culture and enhance recovery. Specifically, the webinar will feature the National Empowerment Center’s work with the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health over the past few years.

Participants will:

Learn the basics of Recovery Dialogues and how they were implemented at the hospital including challenges, successes, and tips for doing the same in your state. The webinar will be interactive and include audience participation, as we would like the webinar to serve as an example of an online Recovery Dialogue in action.

We encourage both people with lived experience and professionals to register for this important webinar.

Recovery Month – Gaithersburg

Recovery Month

At its meeting on September 6 the Mayor and City Council declared September, 2016 as Alcohol and Drug Addiction/Mental Health Recovery Month. Gaithersburg owns and operates Wells/Robertson House, a 14-bed transitional housing program for homeless men and women in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, and DeSellum House, which offers transitional housing for Wells graduates. Activities throughout the month highlight the message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover from mental and/or substance use disorders. The 90- minute workshop titled Film Chats is a combination documentary screening and facilitated discussion. It’s a great opportunity to learn new information, share ideas, and learn from each other.

Film is a powerful medium that inspires, informs, and can influence us to make positive changes in our lives. It can also be a great catalyst for discussion, providing a rich opportunity to discuss not only the film, but its applicability to our lives.

The Empowerment Partnership Project has combed through countless documentaries about recovery and resilience, and has selected several that are inspiring, provocative, informative, and helpful.
